Workshop Program Internship

The Workshop Intern will assist in coordinating a wide range of workshop priorities, including curriculum preparation, workshop hosting and coordination, instructor support, support for hands-on activities, and promotion in support of workshops.

Tasks could include but are not limited to the following:
  • Preparing equipment and materials
  • Creating and distributing promotional materials
  • Assist in writing press releases and maintaining web presence
  • Workshop setup, hospitality and cleanup
  • Administrative/ office support (data entry, file management, photocopying, etc)
  • Customer service (responding to inquiries, and helping to answer queries, etc.)
  • Recruit and maintain positive working relationships with workshop instructors; build and maintain database of instructors and workshop participants
  • Build partnerships with other like-minded educational organizations and venues
  • Maintain workshop policies and procedures in conjunction with RMSLA standards
Projects planned for 2010 that may require intern involvement include: workshop curriculum expansion, developing and implementing a marketing plan to promote workshops.

Depending on their skills and interest, successful interns will develop skills within the logistical and hands-on implementation of educational experiences centered on sustainable living. Interns will also acquire additional skills in marketing, event planning and program management.

Qualifications

We are seeking a dynamic, organized and enthusiastic person with a combination of administrative and customer service skills with a passion for detail oriented planning and enthusiastic creativity for promotion. This intern is expected to be dynamic, organized, and high energy with some event planning and/or volunteer coordination experience. Multitasking and detail management is a large part of the responsibilities and this intern is critical to the quality and overall success of RMSLA workshops. Therefore, the workshop intern must be thorough and professional with little supervision. Applicants should be flexible, energetic, and comfortable sitting at a desk as well as standing in front of various groups of people. They would be able to manage a broad diversity of challenges simultaneously. A good sense of humor, positive and enthusiastic attitude, and willingness to learn are essential attributes of prospective interns. This intern needs to be in good physical condition, able to lift 50 pounds consistently, and be comfortable working outdoors in hot or cold weather. While training will be provided in all areas as necessary, prerequisite/preferred qualities include:
  • Successful experience in developing, directing and managing multiple projects, including ability to create and follow timelines
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail
  • Experience in event planning and program coordination
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, Photoshop, PowerPoint, internet research and data management
  • Marketing and direct promotion experience
  • Graphic design experience
  • Customer service and administrative experience
  • Ability to multi-task and work with changing priorities as needed
  • Ability to follow through on projects with little supervision
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Knowledge of online registration and tracking systems
  • Knowledge and willingness to learn more about sustainable living practices
